The Chairman of Hand-in-Hand, Africa, Shehu Sani, has defended Grammy-winning artiste, Burna Boy, over the controversial N10 million gift he and others got from Rivers State Governor,  Nyesom Wike.

The ‘African Giant’ was honoured by Wike with a homecoming concert on Saturday. During the concert, the governor announced the N10m/musician cash gift to Burna Boy and other artistes at the event

WuzupNigeria reported earlier that some Nigerians took to Twitter to berate the ‘Twice As Tall’ singer for not rejecting the gift, which reportedly came with a land in the city’s capital, Port Harcourt.

Some aggrieved Nigerians opined that it’s unnecessary spending from taxpayer’s money while some felt that Burma’s acceptance is a betrayal to his activism against bad governance in Nigeria.

However,  Sani, a former lawmaker who once represented Kaduna Central in the Senate, and other celebrities, including Big Brother Naija (BBNaij) star, Tacha, have risen in defence of  Burna Boy.

Reacting on Twitter,  Sani said, “You criticize those who don’t do giveaways like Baba (The President,  Major General Muhammadu Buhari(retd.); And you criticize those who do giveaways like Wike: Why na?”

A Twitter user, @AderetiOluwabu1, opined that Nigerians who were critical of the Afro beats star are hypocrites and would accept the money if they were in his position.

In the same vein, BBnaija’s Tacha went all out against Burna Boy’s critics and opined that the singer should have a whole town named after him.

“I’m not exactly a fan of Governor Wike cos he hasn’t done much for the people of the state but you are legit mad to think what gib Wike did yesterday for Burna Boy was unnecessary…

“Y’all don’t know my State, Entertainment in my city, nightlife is gone and dead…

“Burna Boy should have a whole town named after him. He won a Grammy, not some imterstate local award, he won a whole Grammy, he should even have a public holiday dedicated to him.

“So you’ll here crying and winning  saying ‘that’s not a priority,  you are mad.”
