Tems samples Seyi Sodimu’s classic ‘Love Me Jeje’

Following the preview of her track during her performance at Coachella 2024, there was immense anticipation for Tems’ latest single, ‘Love Me Jeje’.

The much-awaited track was officially released on April 26th. In ‘Love Me Jeje’, Tems samples the timeless 1997 Nigerian hit ‘Love Me Jeje’ by Seyi Sodimu featuring Shaffy Bello.

This new single marks Tems’ first release of 2024, following her guest appearance on Tyla’s ‘NO. 1’, featured on the South African artist’s debut album.

‘Love Me Jeje’ follows her previous release, ‘Not An Angel’, which debuted in December 2023. The mid-tempo single incorporates African percussions and Highlife chords while paying homage to Seyi Sodimu’s classic with nostalgic lines.

During her Coachella 2024 performance, Tems explained that sampling Sodimu’s 1997 record was a tribute to the iconic track. Her latest release also stirs anticipation for her upcoming debut album, which she announced was ready during her Coachella set. A private listening session in Lagos further built anticipation for the album.

Since gaining international recognition in 2020 with her captivating performance on Wizkid’s ‘Essence’, Tems has solidified her status as one of Africa’s top music exports.

She has collaborated with renowned artists such as Drake and Beyonce and co-wrote ‘Lift Me Up’, the official soundtrack for ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’, performed by Rihanna. Notably, Tems made history as the first Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy for contributing to Future’s ‘Wait For U’.
