Burna Boy ranked highest grossing African artist with $12.3m revenue
Nigerian Afrobeat star, Burna Boy, real name Damini Ogulu, has amassed a substantial $12.3 million from a series of international concerts held over a span of two years.
This financial revelation stems from meticulously compiled data from Touring Data, a reputable authority in touring charts, box score reports, and Bloomberg Pollstar’s official ticket tracking.
The data unequivocally positions Burna Boy as the standout artist, with an astonishing 14 out of the 20 highest-grossing concerts by an African artist between 2022 and 2023.
Such a remarkable achievement underscores Burna Boy’s global appeal, as he consistently sells out prestigious venues worldwide, creating a lucrative revenue stream beyond his musical compositions.
Highlighted among Burna Boy’s top-grossing concerts, as reported by ChartsAfrica, are iconic venues such as Paris La Defense Arena in France worth $2.86 million, Madison Square Garden in the US grossing $1.58 million, Ziggo Dome in the Netherlands with $1.56 million), and the O2 Arena in London raking $1.35 million.
These figures underscore Burna Boy’s ability to attract substantial audiences and generate significant income across different continents.
However, it’s noteworthy that Burna Boy’s reported earnings may not directly translate into personal income due to various factors such as non-reported splits that may go to his team, venue expenses, promoters’ shares, marketing budgets, and compliance with tax laws, among other considerations.
Additionally, taxes and levies within the international music industry are applied to ticket sales, with further deductions made and revenue divided between the artist, manager, and promoter.
