NUC wades into LAUTECH ownership crisis

The Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission, Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, has expressed the commission’s readiness to address the ownership crisis bedevilling the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso.

Rasheed, who was represented by the Deputy Executive Secretary (Academics) of NUC, Dr. Suleiman Ramon-Yusuf, made the disclosure during a visit by the commission’s reconciliation team to the university on Monday.

LAUTECH, which is jointly owned by Oyo and Osun states, had been enmeshed in ownership crisis leading to the persistent closure of the institution.

The NUC’s Executive Secretary noted that the instability in the academic calendar of LAUTECH had taken a bad toll on both students and staff of the university.

He said, “We are bothered that the potentials and growth of this institution is stunted by a crisis that is needless but becoming protracted. We are determined to bring LAUTECH back on track.

“Our business at this time is to explore avenues to resolving this crisis once and for all in order to ensure that students and staff of this Institution are no longer exposed to further sufferings, and to protect the interest of all stakeholders”.

Earlier in his address, the Vice-Chancellor, LAUTECH, Prof. Michael Ologunde, told the visiting team that the management of the university  was more committed to its advancement.
