The Osun State Police Command has declared Nurudeen Alowonle, a factional chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), wanted over the killing of an Accord Party official, Olalekan Oyeyemi.
According to Premium Times, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, announced the development during a briefing at the command headquarters in Osogbo on Monday.
Oyeyemi, popularly known as Emir, was killed at Mayfair Motor Park in Ile-Ife on September 13, 2026.
Police arrest six suspects over killing
Zungura disclosed that six suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident.
The police commissioner said investigators were searching for Alowonle and another NURTW official, Adeyemi Ojo, also known as Sibi.
“Alowonle is declared wanted. The Command is intensifying efforts to apprehend Nurudeen Alowonle, Adeyemi Ojo, aka Sibi, and other suspects currently at large who are alleged to have participated in the heinous crime,” he said.
According to the police, preliminary investigations suggested that the arrested suspects were allegedly mobilised to participate in the attack.
Among those arrested was Hammed Olalekan Dauda, popularly known as Jagaban, who was reportedly found with a locally modified firearm.
Police said Dauda allegedly claimed during interrogation that Alowonle provided him with the weapon.
Other suspects named by the command included Waliyu Adejare, Tijani Ismail, Akinsola Ekundayo, Sijuade Moruf and Ayeni Adegbola.
Four of the six arrested suspects were identified as personnel of the Osun Amotekun Corps.
Killing triggers motor park reforms
Oyeyemi’s death followed tensions surrounding the control of motor parks in Osun State.
Governor Ademola Adeleke subsequently suspended NURTW activities and directed rival groups to vacate motor parks.
The governor also introduced measures to reorganise park administration in the state.
On October 5, Adeleke signed the Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Bill into law.
The legislation has since generated disagreement between the state government and the opposition All Progressives Congress.
Police said investigations into Oyeyemi’s death were continuing, while efforts to apprehend the wanted suspects had intensified.
The allegations against those named remain unproven in court.
