Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied reports that he reached an agreement with the All Progressives Congress to share legislative and local government positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The governor dismissed the allegations in a statement issued through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed.
The clarification followed social media reports claiming that Adeleke’s political alliance supporting President Bola Tinubu included arrangements to divide elective positions among participating parties.
Adeleke maintained that the cooperation was limited to the presidential election.
Adeleke rejects legislative seat sharing allegations
The governor described reports of an agreement to allocate National Assembly and state legislative seats as false.
He explained that the political arrangement concerned support for Tinubu’s re-election and did not prevent parties from contesting other elections.
“What unites the coalition partners is only the presidential election,” Adeleke said.
He maintained that candidates from the Accord Party would contest legislative positions independently.
The governor also promised to campaign for Accord candidates seeking seats in the Senate, House of Representatives and Osun State House of Assembly.
“We have no deal on the National Assembly and the state Assembly elections,” he stated.
Governor explains Osun local government negotiations
Adeleke also addressed ongoing negotiations concerning local government administration in the state.
He explained that discussions with political stakeholders were intended to resolve disagreements and protect legitimate interests.
The governor maintained that efforts to restore effective grassroots governance should not be mistaken for a political arrangement to allocate elective offices.
He expressed confidence that the local government dispute would be resolved before the end of 2026.
Adeleke backs Tinubu, Accord candidates
Speaking during political activities in Ede, the governor reaffirmed support for Tinubu’s presidential ambition.
However, he maintained that Accord would field and support its candidates in other elections.
Adeleke also urged campaign officials supporting Senator Lere Oyewumi to intensify their activities ahead of the polls.
Represented by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, he called for stronger political mobilisation and voter engagement.
The governor maintained that voters should understand the distinction between the presidential alliance and the separate contests involving legislative candidates.
