President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has criticised former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, over his handling of erosion challenges in the state, using the issue to highlight what he described as his own achievements in tackling coastal threats during his tenure as Lagos governor.
Tinubu made the remarks on Friday, November 6, 2026, while addressing supporters at the All Progressives Congress presidential rally held at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
During his speech, the President questioned Obi’s suitability to be compared with him, alleging that the former Anambra governor failed to adequately address the state’s persistent erosion problems before pursuing his presidential ambition.
“You want to compare my brain with that of Peter Obi? He ran away from erosion in Anambra and now wants to be president, president of where? Lilikabu,” Tinubu said.
The President subsequently drew comparisons between their respective records in office, claiming that he successfully confronted the challenges posed by the Atlantic Ocean while serving as governor of Lagos State.
His remarks appeared to allude to the Eko Atlantic project, an ambitious coastal reclamation and urban development initiative designed to address coastal erosion and create additional land in Lagos.
Tinubu’s comments come amid growing political activities and preparations by major political parties ahead of the 2027 general elections, in which the President is seeking another term in office on the platform of the APC.
Earlier on Friday, Tinubu arrived in Uyo, where he was scheduled to commission several infrastructure and development projects undertaken by the administration of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno.
Among the projects lined up for inauguration was the ARISE Palm Resort, a tourism development facility constructed on land previously affected by severe gully erosion.
