Trump to appear in court today
Former United States president Donald Trump will attend his civil fraud trial in New York on Monday, according to a post on his Truth Social platform on Sunday evening.
“I’m going to Court tomorrow morning to fight for my name and reputation,” Trump wrote.
Trump is accused of orchestrating a scheme spanning several years to inflate the valuations of real estate and financial assets.
The lawsuit was filed by New York Attorney General Letitia James, who is seeking $250 million in damages, a ban on the Trumps from serving as officers of a business in New York, and a ban on the company from engaging in business transactions for five years.
Last week, the judge overseeing the case ruled that Trump is liable for fraud and overvalued his properties on his financial statements for a decade.
Trump has denied the allegations and called the case a “witch hunt.” He has also criticized James and the judge in the case.
The trial is expected to last several weeks. If found guilty, Trump could face various penalties, including fines and the disbarment of his businesses from conducting business in New York.
Trump is a leading contender for the Republican nomination for president in 2024. If he is found guilty, it could damage his chances of winning the nomination and the general election.
