The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, has dismissed reports that the institution has been shut down over fears of a possible attack by suspected bandits.
The university’s Registrar, Olayinka Balogun, in a statement released on Tuesday, said there is no iota of truth in the rumour circulating about the closure of the institution, adding that there is no immediate reason for such action.
Balogun explained that students are currently writing their examinations, and the exercise continues as scheduled.
“This is to strongly debunk the rumour making the rounds that the management of LAUTECH has closed down the university for fear of invasion by bandits. There is no immediate reason for management to close down the university. As a matter of fact, our students are correctly writing their examinations, and the exercise continues tomorrow,” the statement read.
The clarification comes amid growing tension in Ogbomoso and surrounding communities following last week’s abduction of scores of teachers and pupils from schools in Oriire Local Government Area. The incident has left many residents on edge, with rumours of bandit movements spreading across the area.
Management regretted whatever inconvenience the unfounded rumour may have caused and urged students, parents, and guardians to disregard the false information.
