Popular Nigerian comedian and actor Adebowale Adedayo, widely known as Mr Macaroni, has revealed that he sacrificed several lucrative acting opportunities to complete his master’s degree in the United Kingdom.
The entertainer recently graduated with a Master of Arts degree in Performance (Acting), earning a distinction from the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts in London.
Mr Macaroni disclosed in an interview with Saturday Beats that balancing his education with professional commitments required considerable financial and personal sacrifices.
Mr Macaroni opens up about academic journey
The comedian explained that furthering his education had always been part of his plans, but his busy acting career prevented him from pursuing postgraduate studies immediately after obtaining his first degree.
He said he eventually decided to return to school to improve his acting techniques and explore new approaches to performance.
The actor also disclosed that he regularly travelled between Nigeria and London to meet his professional obligations while attending classes.
Speaking about the sacrifices involved, he said, “I wasn’t making as much as I was, but I was spending even more.”
According to him, studying abroad meant turning down jobs that would ordinarily have generated substantial income.
Comedian celebrates distinction
Despite the challenges, Mr Macaroni expressed satisfaction with his academic achievement, particularly graduating with distinction.
He explained that the programme introduced him to new acting methods and strengthened his understanding of performance.
The entertainer also revealed that his dissertation examined the use of Theatre of the Oppressed alongside African performance techniques to address sociopolitical issues.
He said the knowledge acquired would improve his work in filmmaking, theatre, content creation and public engagement.
Mr Macaroni maintained that education remains important for creative professionals seeking to develop their skills and remain relevant in the entertainment industry.
