Punch newspapers wins best newspaper award in Cross River
The Punch newspapers has won the best newspaper in Cross River State award.
The award was given at the recent maiden edition of Calabar Media Summit 2020 organised by Studio 81 Productions.
According to the Executive Director of Studio 81 Productions and the creator and convener of Calabar Media Summit, Anthony Duke,
“The basic essence of the summit is to create an environment where media practitioners, whether as a blogger or in the print or electronic media and also public relations experts come together.
One of the benefits of the conference was the training session and also a platform for networking.
“We thought it wise not just to have a conference but also celebrate some persons and institutions that have done well and promoted the media as an industry.
We have both the voting and non-voting categories.
For the voting category, we had platforms for categories for the best radio station, the best newspaper in the state, the best blogger and the best social media influencer.

For the Best Newspaper, people voted for the national dailies, including the Chronicle which is in the state, and Punch Newspapers came first.”
Duke also explained that “For the non-voting category, we looked at individuals who have excelled and promoted the media.
We have the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Comrade Asu Okang; Oqua Itu; the state Chairman of NIPR, Offiong Ani Offiong and a host of other persons.
We are hoping that it is going to be an annual event.
We are using that platform of the award to encourage those who are in the industry to put in their best.
“We really looked back at ourselves.
Nobody is encouraging us.
That is why we are saying let’s come together, let’s grow ourselves, let’s know how we can also interface with the government, let them see our plight as an industry and see how they can also support us.”
He said Studio 81 Productions is a concept and events management agency and also does media promotions.
Receiving the award on behalf of The Punch Newspapers management, our correspondent thanked Studio 81 Productions for organising the event and also thanked those who voted The Punch Newspapers as the best in Cross River State.
“We will continue to uphold journalistic excellence that has made The Punch Newspapers stand out as the most widely read newspaper in the country,” he said.
