Two Ibadan residents in court for smoking ‘Igbo’ in public
Gbenga Ajayi, 32, and Emmanuel Ojei, 24, were on Thursday arraigned in an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, for allegedly constituting public nuisance.
Ajayi and Ojei, whose residential addresses were not provided, were charged with conduct likely to cause a breach of peace and smoking of illegal substance.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Philip Amusan, told the court that the defendants on April 2, about 9.30p.m, at Ring Road area, Ibadan, conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace.
Amusan said the defendants, on the same date, time and place, were allegedly smoking a substance which caused unhealthy disturbance and a breach of the public peace.
He said the substance was reasonably suspected to be dangerous to public health and peace, and was unlawfully possessed.
Amusan said the offences contravened provisions under sections 249(d) and 430(I) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Abimbola Amole-Ajimoti, granted them bail in the sum of N5,000 each and one surety each in like sum.
Amole-Ajimoti adjourned the case until June 6, for hearing.
