The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old man, Ibrahim Augustine, for allegedly stabbing his 21-year-old neighbour, Haggai Markus, to death following a disagreement over roasted meat.
According to The PUNCH, the incident occurred at about 8pm on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, in Mararaban Vimtim, Mubi North Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, November 5.
Dispute over roasted meat turns fatal
Nguroje explained that the disagreement began over roasted meat allegedly taken from a butcher’s table.
The argument reportedly escalated when Augustine allegedly brought out a knife and stabbed Markus in the chest.
“In the course of the misunderstanding, the suspect allegedly used a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest,” the police spokesperson stated.
He disclosed that the victim’s father, Markus Gabo, reported the incident to the police at approximately 8:45pm on Wednesday.
Following the report, officers attached to the Mubi North Divisional Police Headquarters were dispatched to the scene.
On arrival, the officers found Markus lying motionless in a pool of blood.
The police recovered a knife suspected to have been used in the attack and arrested Augustine in connection with the incident.
The victim’s body was subsequently taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Mubi, where a medical doctor confirmed his death.
Police transfer case for investigation
Nguroje disclosed that the suspect and the case file would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Kabir Umar Hassan, expressed condolences to the deceased’s family and assured them that the command would pursue justice.
He also urged residents to resolve disagreements peacefully instead of resorting to violence.
The commissioner encouraged members of the public to report disputes to security agencies before they escalate into criminal acts.
The incident comes days after another fatal attack involving neighbours was reported in Akinlalu, Osun State.
In that incident, a farmer, Samson Gabriel, was allegedly killed with a machete following a disagreement over money.
Police investigations into the Adamawa killing are ongoing.
