Katsina state on Tuesday evening received four hundred and thirty-five (435)Almajiris who are indigenes of the state from kano state.

The Secretary to Katsina state government, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa received the Almajiris on behalf of the government at Gidan Mutumdaya, the border town between Katsina and Kano states.

He thanked Kano State Government for making adequate arrangements in profiling and quarantine them before handing them over.

Alhaji Inuwa advised parents to desist from sending their wards to unknown places thereby exposing them to social dangers under the guise of seeking for religious knowledge.

He emphasized that it was the responsibility of every parent to ensure proper upbringing of their children which is totally lacking in the Almajiri system.

The Secretary to the government explained that Katsina State Government had already closed down both Islamiyya and Local Quranic Schools and returned all Almajiris to their parents including those from Niger republic.

He reiterated the readiness of Katsina state to work closely with neighbours to fight COVID-19 and other social vices bedevelling the North West Zone.

He expressed happiness that Katsina and Kano were now taking the same measures towards curtailing the spread of the pandemic in the two states.

Earlier, the Kano State Commissioner of Education, Alhaji Muhammad Kiru who led the Kano State team at the handover, said Governor Abdullahi Ganduje was particularly happy with the quick response from the Government of Katsina State which in less than 24hrs notice, made such huge and speedy arrangements to receive it’s indigenes.

The Almajiris who were made up of 419 who were officially brought from Kano and sixteen (16)others who arrived the border town on their own, were thereafter driven to the National Youths Service(NYSC) permanent camp in katsina where they were subjected to another round of medical check-up and passed the night.

Arrangements were being made by Wednesday to send the Almajiris to their respective local government areas.

A statement by the Director, Press to the SGS, Mallam Abdullahi Yaradua in Katsina, said:

“They ( the Almajiris)would be moved to their respective local government areas and handed over to their parents or guardians.”
