Adamawa: Voters turn out in Mubi North to vote
There was however large voter turnout of voters at Muchala ward, voting monitored by our correspondent was seeing proceeding peacefully.
Mubi is the adopted hometown of Governor Mohammed Jibrilla, wide-scale vote buying which resulted into fracas between supporters of the tow dominant party, the Peoples Democratic Party and the ruling All Progressive Congress, is to have been responsible for the cancellation of elections in Mitiri and two other polling units under Muchalla ward.
INEC ad-hoc staff, Gilbert Mathew, at polling unit 023 Mitiri Primary School Kofar Jauron, said elections commenced as early as 8:30 am.
There are 525 registered voters for Mitiri Primary school Kofar Jauro Muchalla, polling unit 023 in Muchalla ward, Mubi North.
Elections for Mitiri polling unit was cancelled after fighting broke out between locals who are opposed to open vote buying by one of the political parties in the area. According to Lawrence Igbo, who expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the rescheduled polls for the area, said
“We are happy that the polls today is proceeding peacefully without any rancour. During the last polls, some persons allegedly working for the APC tried to coerce people into voting for the candidate of their party in the polls.
“They were openly giving out money. This made some PDP supporters and others from the community who are in support of Cliff Ishaya, Senatorial candidate of the PDP who’s from the community to challenge the APC agents, resulting in clashes that lead to the cancellation of the elections in the unit.”
The two other affected polling units are located close to the Cameroonian border with Nigeria.
