An Ogbomoso-based pastor, Joel Olasunkanmi, has narrated how his involvement in ritual practices while seeking wealth preceded a car accident that resulted in the amputation of his leg.
The cleric shared his experience during an interview with BBC Yoruba, explaining that his pursuit of material possessions led him to consult a ritualist.
Olasunkanmi claimed that the relationship continued for approximately five years before the accident that changed his life.

The cleric disclosed that he approached a ritualist hoping to improve his financial circumstances.
According to him, the ritualist gave him instructions involving a woman he loved and certain ritual materials.
Olasunkanmi claimed that he subsequently became wealthy but was prohibited from purchasing a house or car using the money.
“I did become rich. I did not know how it happened,” he said.
The pastor maintained that he later became involved in a car accident on May 26, 2001.

Olasunkanmi explained that the vehicle involved in the accident had been purchased with money he provided to another person.
He associated the incident with his earlier decisions and claimed that the accident eventually led to the loss of his leg.
However, the account represents the pastor’s personal interpretation of events, not independently established evidence that ritual activities caused the accident.

Reflecting on his experience, Olasunkanmi urged young Nigerians to avoid desperation in pursuing financial success.
He encouraged patience and warned against decisions driven by the desire to acquire wealth quickly.
