The Lagos State Police Command has rescued three young girls believed to be victims of human trafficking during a routine patrol in the Badagry area of the state.
According to The PUNCH, the girls were intercepted while travelling on a commercial motorcycle along Owode Apa Road.
Force Public Relations Officer Ani Iniedu confirmed the incident in a statement shared on his official X account on Friday, October 30, 2026.
The police said the operation prevented a suspected trafficking attempt and that investigations were ongoing.
Police intercept motorcycle carrying three girls
Iniedu explained that officers on routine patrol noticed a commercial motorcycle conveying the three girls.
The officers stopped the motorcycle and questioned those involved.
“A team of police officers on routine patrol intercepted a commercial motorcycle conveying three young girls along Owode Apa Road, Badagry,” he said.
The police spokesperson disclosed that preliminary questioning indicated that the girls were victims of human trafficking.
He confirmed that they had been rescued and debriefed.
Investigation transferred to Panti
The spokesperson explained that the State Criminal Investigation Department at Panti, Yaba, had taken over the case.
Investigators are working to identify and locate individuals suspected of involvement in the trafficking operation.
The police did not immediately disclose the ages or identities of the rescued girls.
Details concerning their intended destination and the circumstances under which they were being transported were also not made public.
Authorities have not announced any arrests directly linked to the suspected traffickers.
Police continue search for suspects
The Lagos State Police Command maintained that efforts were ongoing to track down those responsible for the alleged trafficking attempt.
The case remains under investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department.
