Mentally challenged teenager stabs aunt to death – Ondo police
The Ondo Police Command has shed light on the tragic killing of a 54-year-old civil servant, Mrs. Funmilayo Adelayi, revealing that her 17-year-old niece, Wunmi Aduloju, who allegedly committed the crime, has mental health issues.
Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, disclosed that medical records from a psychiatric hospital where the suspect had been receiving treatment confirmed her health condition.
The incident occurred at the victim’s three-bedroom bungalow along Superjet Road, Premier Estate, off Oda Road, Akure South Local Council Area of the state. The decomposing body of Mrs. Adelayi was discovered a few days later.
“The police took the remains to the mortuary, and during clean-up, a mark of violence (stabbing) was observed, while a knife was also found at the scene of the crime,” stated the PPRO.
Investigations revealed that the deceased lived with her 17-year-old niece, Wunmi Aduloju, who suddenly disappeared and locked the door. The foul smell emanating from the house prompted neighbors to raise an alarm, alerting the victim’s sister.
Upon arrival, Mrs. Adelayi’s sister peered through the window and spotted the body on the floor, prompting them to contact the police. The decomposed corpse was subsequently removed for preservation.
The suspect, who has been arrested, was taken to a police medical facility for safekeeping to prevent any harm to herself or others.
