Tottenham secures loan deal for Timo Werner

Published

Tottenham Hotspur has finalized the loan acquisition of former Chelsea striker Timo Werner from RB Leipzig until the conclusion of the current season.

As reported by SkySports in Germany, Tottenham will cover Werner’s salary for the remainder of the season, and the agreement includes an option to make the transfer permanent for approximately £15 million.

Werner is making a return to the Premier League following a two-year stint with Chelsea from 2020 to 2022, during which he netted 23 goals in 89 appearances across all competitions for the Blues.

Subsequently, the German forward rejoined his former club Leipzig at the commencement of the previous season, tallying 16 goals for the Bundesliga side. However, his participation has been restricted to just 14 appearances and two goals in the first half of the current season.

The addition of Werner to the squad comes as a timely boost for Spurs, who have faced challenges in their forward line due to Heung-Min Son’s departure for the Asia Cup in January and forward Alejo Veliz’s two-month absence owing to a knee injury.

Furthermore, Spurs midfielder James Maddison remains sidelined for at least a couple of weeks due to an ankle injury.
