Tottenham close in on Timo Werner deal

Published

Tottenham has successfully finalized a loan agreement for RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner until the season’s conclusion.

The deal includes Spurs covering the entire 27-year-old’s salary until the campaign concludes, with an option to make the transfer permanent at £15.5 million.

According to Sky SPorts, the fee for Werner’s permanent signing stands at £15.5 million. Earlier this week, there were suggestions that the former Chelsea player was being considered by Manchester United in the January transfer window.

However, it now appears that Werner is poised to make a return to London this month.

Tottenham, led by Ange Postecoglou, is currently facing a challenging situation with club captain Heung-Min Son set to miss at least a month due to his involvement in the Asia Cup.

Additionally, there are concerns about Alejo Veliz, who may be dealing with a long-term knee injury.

Werner’s recent Bundesliga appearances have been limited, featuring only eight times for Leipzig this season and scoring two goals.

His existing contract with Leipzig is valid until the summer of 2026. Leipzig confirmed Werner’s absence from their squad for a friendly against St Gallen through an official statement on social media, revealing ongoing talks with another club.

The German international boasts an impressive record, having scored 93 goals and provided 40 assists in 157 appearances during his initial spell with Leipzig. After a stint with Chelsea, where he netted only 10 times in 56 Premier League games, Werner is returning to Tottenham to revitalize his career.
