Published

The Peoples Democratic Party has expressed profound sorrow in response to the unexpected demise of the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar N’Abba, characterizing it as a significant national loss.

In a statement released on Wednesday by Debo Ologunagba, National Publicity Secretary, the PDP lauded N’Abba as a brave and forward-thinking politician, a principled legislator, a cultured democrat, and a resourceful grassroots leader.

The late politician was known for his unwavering commitment to democratic principles, including the separation of powers, legislative independence, citizen freedom, equity, and social justice. His pivotal contributions to the stability and advancement of the nation were highlighted in the statement.

Recalling N’Abba’s tenure as Speaker, the PDP acknowledged his leadership in guiding fellow Democrats in the House of Representatives to establish a framework for the restoration of the legislative branch following an extended period of military rule.

“Despite the challenges, he was resolute in entrenching democratic practice and insisted on strict adherence to the Rule of Law and transparency in governance with effective legislative oversight of government Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs).

“Rt. Hon. N’Abba remained committed to the nation, especially in playing pivotal roles towards the deepening of democracy and salvaging the country from the stranglehold of oppressive forces,” the statement partly read.

The PDP extended heartfelt condolences to the N’Abba family, the National Assembly, the government, and the people of Kano State. The party concluded the statement with a prayer to the Almighty Allah, seeking solace for the grieving family and granting the departed soul Al-Jannah Fiddausi.
