The Peoples Democratic Party in Bauchi State has disowned any proposed alliance or working relationship with the Allied Peoples Movement, describing the reported merger of a faction of the party with the APM as invalid.
The state PDP Chairman, Ibrahim Kashim Toro, made the position known on Tuesday during a press briefing with journalists at the party’s secretariat on Maiduguri Road, Bauchi.
According to Toro, the group that announced its defection to the APM no longer belonged to the recognised PDP structure in the state. He alleged that members of the faction had been expelled from the party before announcing their latest political move.
“As you can see, every member of the PDP is here, there is no other PDP anywhere in Bauchi State. Those who left are not legitimate members of the PDP because they had been expelled long before now,” he said.
Toro insisted that the faction under his leadership remained the authentic PDP structure in Bauchi State, pointing to a series of court judgments as backing for its claim to legitimacy.
He further disclosed that the party had produced candidates for every elective position ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that the candidates had already been uploaded to the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“We are the PDP and we have fielded candidates for all elective offices in the 2027 general elections. INEC has since uploaded our candidates on its portal as displayed,” he said.
The chairman also affirmed that the PDP would contest the 2027 elections across the state, revealing that preparations were underway for the commencement of the party’s statewide campaign.
Toro called on PDP members throughout Bauchi State to disregard the rival faction’s announcement and step up grassroots mobilisation in support of the party’s candidates ahead of the elections.
The PDP Legal Adviser in the state, Yahaya Garkuwa, similarly declared that the Toro-led group represented the authentic structure of the party in Bauchi, referring to several court rulings in support of the position.
Garkuwa added that the PDP remained united and firmly established in Bauchi State, stressing that the party had no intention of entering into an alliance or collaboration with the APM.
