Okadaman, 24, arraigned for alleged theft of colleague’s motorcycle

A 24-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Yaya Mohammed, on Thursday appeared before an Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State over alleged theft of colleague’s motorcycle worth N160,000.

Mohammed, whose address was not provided, is facing two charges of conspiracy and stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The Prosecutor, Insp Donjour Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences in December 2021 at Kazeem Street, Alapere in the Ketu area of Lagos State.

Perezzi said that the defendant stole a motorcycle from the compound of the complainant, one Mr Salami Tolani, who had travelled.

He said that the defendant stole a motorcycle with registration number: LND 378 QM.

Perezzi said that the defendant was caught by some neighbours of the complainant who handed him over to the police.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 286 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Section 287 stipulates three years’ jail term for stealing, while Section 411 provides two years for conspiracy.

The magistrate, Mrs O.M. Ajayj, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ajayi ordered that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

She adjourned the case until March 7 for mention.
