Sharia court convicts man for stealing N190,000 motorcycle

A Shari’a Court sitting in Magajin Gari, Kaduna, on Thursday, sentenced one Usman Sahabi to 12 months in correctional facility for stealing a Boxer motorcycle.
The Judge, Malam Rilwanu Kyaudai, gave the judgment after Sahabi had pleaded guilty to the offences, bordering on criminal conspiracy, breach of trust and theft.
The judge, however, gave the convict an option of N27,000 fine.
He also ordered him to pay N220,000 as compensation for the stolen motorcycle and for the pain he had caused the complainant, Buhari Usman.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Shuaibu, said that the convict, along with an unidentified person, visited Usman’s shop located at Fulani road, Tudun Wada, Kaduna.
“Sahabi selected a Boxer motorcycle, worth N190,000 while the man he came with requested to ride the motorcycle to test it but didn’t return, and the shop owner refused to let him go,” he said.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Section 152 of the Shari’a Criminal Procedure Code.
