Ogun footballer slumps, dies during training session
A tragic incident occurred in Ogun State on Saturday when a footballer, identified as Sodiq Adebisi, unexpectedly collapsed and passed away during a training session at the Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
According to PUNCH Online, Adebisi was participating in a training session with his fellow footballers when he suddenly fell to the ground. His teammates, witnessing the alarming scene, promptly rushed him to a nearby state hospital in Ijebu-Ode for urgent medical attention.
Despite the valiant efforts of medical personnel at the hospital, Sodiq Adebisi succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead on the same day. The cause of his sudden collapse remains unclear.
The deceased footballer’s body has been transferred to the state mortuary in Ijebu-Ode, awaiting further investigation and determination of the cause of death.
Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to PUNCH Online, stating that the deceased’s brother, Ganiyu Adebisi, had approached the Igbeba Police Division to request the release of the body for burial rites.
“The brother came to report the incident at our Igbeba division. The family said they don’t want any investigation and that they wanted to bury the deceased according to Islamic rite,” Odutola said.
