A 50-year-old man, Abdulrasaki Danladi, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court sitting in Isabo for allegedly assaulting a woman with an iron rod.
Danladi was alleged to have attacked Fausat Zanku at about 10:00 p.m. on September 30 at Igbore Village, Iro Town, Owode-Egba.
The prosecutor, Evelyn Motim, told the court that the defendant allegedly assaulted Zanku while she was observing vigil prayers at a Celestial Church.
Motim alleged that Danladi attacked the woman with an iron rod without any prior confrontation, inflicting a serious head injury that left her incapacitated.
She said Zanku’s alarm attracted other church members to the scene, leading to Danladi’s arrest.
The defendant was brought before the court on a one-count charge of assault and pleaded guilty to the offence.
According to the prosecutor, the alleged offence contravenes Section 335 of the Criminal Code Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O Sam-Obaleye, adjourned the matter until October 29 for hearing of facts.
