Leaving Nigeria, music best decision of my life, says 9ice ex-wife, Toni Payne
Toni Payne, a former artiste manager and ex-wife of popular Nigerian singer, 9ice, has revealed some of the best decisions she has made in her life.
She took to her Instagram story to state that leaving Nigeria and its music industry to move to Los Angeles was the best decision she has ever made.
Payne wrote, “2020 reflection: Looking at all I’ve acquired in a short period and thinking, leaving music was one of the best decisions I’ve made career-wise. Leaving Naija and coming back to LA was another. I hated the distractions and noise that come with the public figure factor. I chose true success, not audio success and sanity over fame when I left music and Naija. I still get a lot of artists who wanna work with me but truth is, I’m no longer selfless in that department.”
In her post, she revealed that she still gets offers to work with music artistes. However, she said the only way she will toe that path again would be if she was working with a relative or the price was right.
“See ehn, sometimes you’ve gotta choose to be selfish and build your thing, not someone else’s, or else you’ll have nothing to show for all your hard work except people here and there know your name… some mostly gossip! smh! lol!
“f I ever go back to music in that capacity, it will be because the monetary offer was too sweet to say no or to build with my blood… no strangers.”
