UPDATED: Finance Ministry fire caused by battery spark – Spokesman
Nigerians woke up this morning to find the Federal Ministry of Finance Headquarters in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, on fire.
A spokesperson for the Federal Fire Service, Abraham Paul, earlier revealed that operatives were at the scene of the incident, combating the fire.
However, in a statement hours after the fire appeared to have been contained, the ministry revealed the cause of the incident.
According to the Special Adviser (Media and Communications) to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, the fire was caused by an isolated battery pack.
Abdullahi however noted that the fire was immediately put out by security personnel on duty.
The statement read, “NewsFlash: The Federal Ministry of Finance Headquarters is not on fire as reported on the social media.
“Rather there was an incident on the corridor in the basement involving an isolated battery Pack (Photo inset) and it was quickly put out by the security personnel on duty.”
