#EndSARS: Arewa youths call for unity of purpose

The Arewa Youth Assembly (AYA) has urged Nigerians to shun any act or comment capable of causing disunity among the people as the #EndSARS protests spread across the country.
Mr Desmond Minakaro, AYA National Clerk, said this in a statement issued on behalf of the group on Monday.
Minakaro said Nigerian youths should unite in their demand for police reforms, rather than throw tantrums at one another on the protest strategy.
Recall that the National President, Yerima Shettima, had been accused of threatening war if the #EndSARS protests lead to the resignation of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Shettima has since denied making such a comment, describing it as malicious calling on Nigerians to disregard the claim.
Minakaro explained that anybody beating the drums of war with their comments at this critical time should be seen as the real enemy of the country.
“It’s unfortunate that the youths are beating the drums of war against themselves, north and south; sincerity of purpose should be our guide in protesting to have our demands made.
“The demands made by the protesters in the north and south are all genuine. What is important is to categorise these demands into immediate, short term and long terms, for results to be achieved.
“Government should be allowed to roll out processes of meeting the demands with sincerity, as seen in the disbandment of SARS, and so on.
“We should never allow any politician to hijack the protests for any selfish reasons.
“The protests should not be characterised by looting, destruction or any social vice. The security agencies should be more civil in responding,” Minakaro said.
He also urged the protesters to be patriotic in their demands and not allow politicians and hoodlums to hijack the protests.
