Bayern Munich faced a disappointing setback with a 1-0 defeat at home against Werder Bremen.

The match had moments of controversy as Werder Bremen thought they had taken the lead midway through the first half when Justin Njinmah scored after a quick turnover.

However, VAR intervened and disallowed the goal due to a foul in the build-up, providing Bayern with a stroke of luck.

The first half concluded with a sense of frustration for Bayern, who struggled to establish their rhythm and failed to create substantial scoring opportunities.

Despite the goal disallowed against Werder Bremen, Bayern found themselves unable to capitalize on their fortune.

The second half unfolded similarly, with Bayern dominating possession but lacking cutting edge in front of goal.

Against the run of play, Mitchell Weiser seized an opportunity in the box and scored, giving Werder Bremen the lead and leaving Bayern in a state of disbelief. Attempts from Bayern’s substitute bench to alter the course of the game proved insufficient, as Werder Bremen defended resolutely.

The 32-time winners, Bayern Munich, now find themselves trailing Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen by seven points.

Meanwhile, Werder Bremen’s three points from the victory take them to 20 points, establishing a comfortable nine-point cushion above the relegation places.

The unexpected defeat for Bayern has significant implications for their league standing, while Werder Bremen secures a crucial victory to distance themselves from the relegation zone.
