Harry Kane scored his first Bundesliga goal of the season. Bayern Munich survived a stern test from newly promoted Elversberg to claim a 2-1 away victory on Sunday.
According to AFP, the England captain struck in the 72nd minute to restore Bayern’s lead. Maurice Krattenmacher had cancelled out Lennart Karl’s first-half opener.
Kane was handed the captain’s armband with Manuel Neuer rested. He found space inside a crowded penalty area before finishing on the turn to secure all three points for the defending champions.
The goal ended a brief league drought for the striker, who had failed to score in Bayern’s opening two Bundesliga matches. Previously, he hit 36 league goals last season.
“That’s football — sometimes you have to wait more than you’d have expected,” Kane told DAZN.
“It was nice to get the goal and the three points. It’s a tough place so we’re happy with the win.”
Elversberg push champions hard
Bayern went ahead in the 26th minute when teenage Germany winger Karl converted a cross originally intended for Kane.
Elversberg thought they had equalised through American forward Cole Campbell, but his effort was ruled out for offside.
The hosts eventually drew level shortly after the hour mark. At that point, Krattenmacher curled a superb effort into the net from the edge of the penalty area.
Bayern responded, and Kane delivered the decisive moment 11 minutes later. This handed Elversberg their first defeat of their maiden Bundesliga campaign.
“We probably haven’t reached our top level yet, but it’s still early days,” Kane said.
Elversberg had stunned Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Mönchengladbach in their opening two league matches before facing Bayern.
Leipzig crush Hamburg
Elsewhere, RB Leipzig responded emphatically to recent setbacks with a 5-0 demolition of Hamburg.
Tidiam Gomis opened the scoring in the 17th minute before Antonio Nusa doubled Leipzig’s advantage.
Willi Orban added a third after the break. Meanwhile, Christopher Nkunku scored his first goal since returning to Leipzig in August.
Romulo completed the rout with a late counter-attacking effort.
Nusa, who scored once and provided two assists, said Leipzig had been determined not to dwell on their previous defeats.
“Today we had to perform and we did,” he said.
The defeat leaves Hamburg without a point after three Bundesliga matches. In contrast, Leipzig secured a much-needed victory following defeats against Werder Bremen and Como.
