Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has signed a law providing for a 13th-month salary benefit for eligible public servants in the state.
According to The PUNCH, the governor signed the legislation alongside four other bills on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Asaba.
The new laws are intended to improve workers’ welfare, strengthen the judiciary, protect property rights and reform tax administration.
The governor described the legislation as part of his administration’s MORE Agenda.
Delta workers to benefit from additional salary
Speaking during the signing ceremony, Oborevwori explained that the 13th Month Salary Law was designed to improve workers’ welfare and recognise their contributions.
“This initiative will boost workers’ morale, reward their contributions and improve productivity,” the governor said.
The law provides for an additional salary benefit for eligible public servants.
However, the government has yet to announce detailed payment arrangements and eligibility requirements.
Outgoing Head of Service Mininim Oseji welcomed the development, describing the legislation as beneficial to workers and their families.
She also expressed confidence that the initiative would encourage economic activities within the state.
Delta governor signs four other laws
Beyond the additional salary benefit, Oborevwori signed amendments affecting the state’s judicial system.
One amendment increases the number of High Court judges from 46 to 50, while another raises Customary Court of Appeal judges from nine to 12.
The governor explained that the changes would strengthen judicial capacity and improve access to justice.
He also signed the Public and Private Properties Protection Amendment Law, designed to prevent unlawful occupation and destruction of properties.
The Delta State Revenue Service (Consolidated) Law, 2026, was also signed to improve tax administration and reduce multiple taxation.
House of Assembly Speaker Emomotimi Guwor said the legislation would support governance, judicial efficiency and investment protection.
Oborevwori urged government agencies to ensure effective implementation of the newly signed laws.
