Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho has challenged Ivory Coast winger Yan Diomande to improve his finishing and decision-making despite expressing satisfaction with his performances for the Spanish club.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Mourinho made the remarks following Real Madrid’s victory over Sevilla on Sunday.
The Portuguese coach acknowledged the 19-year-old’s attacking potential but insisted that he needed to become more clinical in front of goal.
Mourinho identifies weakness in Diomande’s game
Mourinho said Diomande had demonstrated an ability to move into dangerous attacking positions but sometimes struggled to make the right decisions.
“I am very happy with Diomande,” the manager said.
He explained that the winger needed to improve his composure when approaching goal and make better use of scoring opportunities.
The coach also emphasised the importance of selecting the right final pass or shot during attacking situations.
Diomande’s Real Madrid development continues
The Ivory Coast international joined Real Madrid from German club RB Leipzig during the summer transfer window.
Since arriving in Spain, the youngster has attracted attention for his pace, movement and attacking contributions.
Mourinho believes those qualities could make him an important player for the club if he continues developing his technical abilities.
The manager’s remarks suggest that greater consistency in the final third will be an important part of Diomande’s development.
Real Madrid will hope the winger can build on his promising performances as the club continues its domestic and European campaigns.
