The Nigeria Customs Service has called for stronger collaboration with the media to promote public awareness, border security, and national development.

According to The Punch, the National Public Relations Officer of the NCS, DCC Abdullahi Maiwada, made the call during a media parley held at the Kano/Jigawa Area Command headquarters in Kano on Monday.

The event, themed “Building Synergy Between the Media and Customs for Enhanced Stakeholders’ Awareness and National Development,” was organised to strengthen cooperation between the media and the service for accurate information dissemination.

Maiwada commended journalists for their continued support and described the media as a vital bridge between the Customs Service and the public.

He noted that the media remained an important partner in national development through public sensitisation and awareness creation.

According to him, the Customs Service had intensified the use of information technology and other technology driven operations to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Maiwada stressed the importance of accurate dissemination of information, noting that Nigerians depend on credible reports for their daily activities.

He also disclosed that the service works closely with media organisations across the country and disseminates information in different languages to ensure wider reach and understanding.

The Customs spokesperson urged journalists to sustain professionalism and support the activities of the service for national development.

In his remarks, the Acting Customs Controller of the Kano/Katsina Area Command, Usman Adamu, described the engagement as an opportunity to strengthen cooperation between Customs and the media.

He thanked journalists for their support to the command since he assumed office.

Also speaking, the Public Relations Officer of the command, CSP Tahir Balarabe, said the engagement was aimed at improving collaboration between the service and the public through effective information dissemination.

The event was attended by media practitioners from Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna states.
