Nigerian global superstar Burna Boy has made history by achieving the biggest streaming year ever recorded by an African artist on Spotify.

Data for 2025 reveals the ‘Ye’ singer garnered a staggering 1.986 billion streams on the platform, setting a new benchmark.

He led a top five dominated by Nigerian artists. Wizkid followed as the second most-streamed African act with 1.81 billion streams. South Africa’s Grammy winner Tyla took third place with 1.67 billion streams, while Rema and Davido completed the list with 1.63 billion and 1.58 billion streams respectively.

The top ten was rounded out by Asake (1.52 billion), Ayra Starr (1.47 billion), CKay (1.38 billion), Seyi Vibez (1.32 billion), and Mr Eazi (1.26 billion).

2025 was a busy year for Burna with major viral hits and strategic global touring. Despite having some few setbacks, his ‘I Told Them…’ tour, which grossed millions and sold hundreds of thousands of tickets worldwide, is seen as a key driver of this success.
