Nigerian dancer and entertainer Poco Lee has maintained his innocence. He spoke publicly for the first time since his release on bail in the United Kingdom.
According to Vanguard, Poco Lee addressed the case during a video call with social commentator VeryDarkMan. The call was shared on Sunday. He said his knowledge of what happened helped him remain mentally strong throughout the ordeal.
The dancer said his biggest concern while he was away was not himself but the welfare of people close to him. He added that he worried about the effect his absence had on their activities.
“I was just being myself. God sees my heart. My only worries were about my people. Jago could not do anything business, and I didn’t want to stress anyone,” he said.
Poco Lee maintains innocence
Poco Lee said being convinced of his innocence prevented him from feeling weighed down by the allegation against him.
“If I was inside there and I did what I was accused of, I would have felt I was paying for my sins, but since I knew I didn’t do what I was accused of, my mind is pure,” he said.
He also acknowledged friends who publicly stood by him despite the sensitivity surrounding the case.
“Nobody would have wanted to associate themselves with something like that, but Burna Boy stood by me, Jago and some of my other guys,” he added.
VeryDarkMan backs dancer
VeryDarkMan also questioned reports surrounding Poco Lee’s situation and praised Burna Boy and Rahman Jago for supporting the entertainer.
After their video conversation, the social commentator wrote that he had spoken directly with Poco Lee and Jago. He did this while defending the credibility of his earlier comments about the case.
“I just got off a video call with @rahman_jago_ and @poco_lee,” he wrote.
UK case continues
Poco Lee’s comments come ahead of further proceedings at Snaresbrook Crown Court. September 15 had earlier been fixed for plea and trial preparation.
The case followed the dancer’s visit to the United Kingdom in August. He was there for the Davido and Friends concert held at Crystal Palace Bowl in London on August 14.
The allegation against Poco Lee remains before the court for determination, and he has not been convicted of any offence.
