Nigerian Afrobeats star, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has launched his second collection with sportswear brand Puma at their flagship store in New York.
The partnership, initially announced last year, has now produced two collections, with the first debuting in April. The latest collection includes sportswear items like t-shirts, sneakers, jackets, and bags.
During the launch event, which was hosted by Rolling Stone reporter Mankaprr Conteh, Davido reflected on his journey and humble beginnings, stating, “My goal was to just get my music on the radio in Nigeria.”
Speaking about the second collection, Davido explained, “You know the first collection, we were just testing the waters. Because it was a risk for them. Yes, people love my music, but it is different from people love your music and people buy your products.”
The unveiling comes at a time when tensions have resurfaced between Davido and fellow Afrobeats star Wizkid.
The rivalry reignited after Davido announced his first single of 2024.
Wizkid, in a series of posts on X, claimed he had turned down a deal from Puma, implying that this demonstrated his superiority over Davido.
He wrote, “U idiot! I turned down Puma cos they could no longer afford to pay me cos I wanted more! Don’t need dat! Way bigger than every artiste u just mentioned! Not jealous ! love em all…With ur dirty ass shirt! Idiot!
“No ! Puma is Big brand! But the budget they had for Africa wasn’t for me! Was cool for your client tho! 🦅”
Despite the jabs, Davido has not responded to Wizkid’s remarks and has continued to focus on his collaboration with Puma.
