A 20-year-old homeless man, Monday Ojo, found himself before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, facing charges of housebreaking and theft of food items.
Ojo, who does not have a fixed address, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge brought against him.
According to Inspector Moyosola Adesola, the prosecutor, the alleged incident took place on March 14 at noon in the Falegan area along Ilawe Road in Ado-Ekiti.
Adesola claimed that Ojo unlawfully entered the residence of Mrs. Modupe Ajala and stole various food items including a pot of soup, ‘fufu’, noodles, salt, and onions, totaling N300,000 in value.
The prosecutor stated that these actions contravened Sections 322 and 302(1)(a) of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
In her ruling, Chief Magistrate Mrs. Taiwo Ajibade granted Ojo bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.
The case has been adjourned until April 23 for further hearing.
