Abuja refuse dump explosion injures two – Police
The Federal Capital Territory Police has addressed an alleged bomb blast that has caused panic and injured two persons in, Abuja on Wednesday, January 24.
Residents of Maitama reportedly heard a loud sound that was initially feared to be a bomb blast that was said to have occurred in the morning around 11 am.
Confirming the incident, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, clarified that it was not a bomb blast but an explosion.
She stated that an overheated metal refuse container activated under intense heat, causing the metal to explode and injuring two refuse evacuators.
Adeh assured the public, saying, “The situation has been brought under control.” She urged caution, advising against using metal refuse bins and recommending the use of plastic or rubber containers for waste disposal, as they pose a reduced risk of incidents related to overheated metal refuse containers.
