LG chair arrested over alleged plot to assassinate Benue speaker

Police authorities have apprehended two individuals, including a local government chairman, on charges related to an alleged conspiracy to assassinate the Speaker of the Benue House of Assembly, Aondona Hycenth Dajoh.

The Force Headquarters disclosed that investigations revealed the local government chairman’s purported involvement in contracting a militia with the intention of eliminating Speaker Dajoh.

In response to credible intelligence, the Force Intelligence Department – Intelligence Response Team swiftly took action to prevent the planned assassination.

Force spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi issued a statement on Monday, stating, “Both suspects are currently in police custody and are actively cooperating with investigators in the ongoing inquiry.
The Nigeria Police Force remains resolute in its commitment to upholding the safety and security of citizens and public officials.”

Adejobi emphasized that both suspects would face the full consequences of the law.

He reassured Nigerians of the police’s steadfast commitment to maintaining law and order, as well as preventing crimes at all levels.
