The Nigerian Bar Association, Garki Branch, FCT, has strongly condemned the illegal harvesting and trade of kidneys in the territory and surrounding areas and announced the provision of pro bono legal representation for any victim of the kidney trade who requires such services.

The association, led by its chairman, Obioma Ezenwobodo, in a statement on Wednesday emphasized the commitment of the branch to ensuring justice for those affected by the illegal Kidney trade.

Ezenwobodo stated, “The NBA Garki Branch is deeply concerned about the reports of illegal kidney trade in the FCT and its environs. We condemn this practice, which is not only shady but also cruel and inhuman.”

The NBA Garki Branch has also directed its Health and Medical Committee to monitor pending legal actions initiated by affected parties.

The committee will work to ensure that justice is served and that those responsible for the illegal kidney trade face legal consequences.

In addition to offering legal support, the association called on relevant government agencies and professional bodies to collaborate and take decisive actions to eradicate the illicit organ trade.

The NBA advocates for the establishment of a strict regulatory framework for organ transplants to prevent further exploitation and abuses.

The NBA’s stance aligns with the provisions of the National Health Act of 2024, specifically Section 54, which expressly prohibits the sale or trade of human organs.
