Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has called upon the Nigerian Air Force to increase its surveillance and air interdiction efforts in order to combat criminal elements operating along the porous Nigeria-Cameroon border.

The governor made this request during a courtesy visit on Saturday to the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, as he acknowledged the need for improved collaboration with NAF to address the various security challenges facing the state.

He commended NAF for its pivotal role in counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations, particularly in the northeastern region, emphasizing that NAF’s air power capabilities provide an effective solution to counter the activities of terrorists and criminals.

Governor Kefas stressed the urgency of enhanced cooperation with NAF to counter the activities of terrorists and bandits who are determined to disrupt the peace-loving people of Taraba.

Additionally, the governor announced his plans to reopen and upgrade the Suntai Airport in Jalingo and his efforts to combat illegal mining in the state.

Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar commended Governor Kefas for his developmental initiatives, particularly in agricultural transformation and educational programs that provide employment opportunities to youths and reduce crime.

Abubakar also praised the governor’s plans to reopen and upgrade the airport, as it will facilitate domestic flights, attract investors, and enable NAF platforms to enhance their operations in Taraba.

Furthermore, the CAS acknowledged the positive impact of the prohibition of mining activities in the state, highlighting that ending illegal mining would allow the state to harness its natural resources.

He emphasized the link between illegal mining and criminal activities, including terrorism and banditry.

He assured that NAF would collaborate with the Taraba government in patrolling the border area to instill confidence and ensure the prosperity of the people.

Abubakar expressed NAF’s full cooperation and support for the governor’s efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of Taraba.

He stated “Rest assured of NAF’s full cooperation and support until you succeed in delivering the dividends of democracy to your people.”
