Gunmen shoot lawyer dead in Imo

24 hours after hoodlums killed the priest- in-charge of St Andrew’s Anglican church IhitteUkwa in Orsu Local Government Arae, Emeka Merenu, in Imo State, unknown gunmen have Thursday morning killed a lawyer, Darlington Odume.

Odume was reported to have been shot at a supermarket at Amaifeke in Orlu, in the Orlu Local Government Area of the state.

The PUNCH reports that Odume, a native of Umudara village in Amaifeke- Orlu, was called to the Nigerian Bar Association, five years ago.

He was said to be handling some cases relating to some persons arrested in connection with the violence rocking the area.

Odume died on the way to the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu, after he was rejected by the first hospital he was rushed to, according to a source.

“He was rushed to a hospital in the area but they rejected him, referring them to the Imo State University Teaching Hospital, Orlu but he died along the way, the source said.

The police spokesperson for the state, Micheal Abattam, confirmed the killing and added that the state commissioner of police, Rabiu Hussaini, had ordered a holistic investigation into the incident, The PUNCH stated.
