The defendant, who resides at Ipaja area of Lagos, is facing charges of conspiracy, obtaining by false pretence and stealing.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecutor, ASP. Raji Akeem, told the court that the defendant committed the offences with one other, still at large, on June 18 at Ile Epo Market, Abule Egba Road, Lagos.

Akeem said the defendant collected the bags of beans from Messrs Hamis Abubakar and Hassan Abdullahi, that he would sell them and refund their money, but failed to do so.

Akeem said the defendant stopped picking their calls and all efforts made by the complainants to get their money or the beans proved abortive.

He said the case was reported to the police and defendant was arrested.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 314, 280 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos, 2015.

The Chief Magistrates, Mrs O. A Adelaja, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Adelaja adjourned the case until Aug. 28 for mention.
