How wife prevented Igboho’s extradition to Nigeria – Counsel
A counsel to Yoruba activist, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Igboho, has revealed that his wife, Ropo and brother, fought off the activist’s planned extradition to Nigeria in a standby helicopter following his arrest.
WuzupNigeria reported that the Yoruba Nation agitator was arrested on Monday night by Interpol in Cotonou, the Benin Republic onboard a flight to Germany alongside his wife.
Speaking on a radio programme, monitored on Rave Fm, in Osogbo on Wednesday, counsel- Chief Yomi Aliyu, said Igboho, his wife and brother, were already in a Germany-bound aircraft when someone pointed him out.
The PUNCH quoted Aliyu as saying, “He[Igboho] was already in the plane in Cotonou on his way to Germany with his wife and his brother was there too. Somebody fingered him out that he is a wanted person.
“He was brought down with the wife and brother and fracas ensued because he was to be flown to Nigeria by a standby helicopter. But the wife and the brother put up a fight and started shouting at the airport which attracted some other Yoruba indigenes and they came to their rescue.
“Sunday was hit with a hard object on his hand that left him in pain, injuring his hand. One of his brothers was physically bundled into a plane going to Germany. That one is in Germany now, not Sunday.”
The legal practitioner, who said he had been communicating with Igboho indirectly, said he would not want to go Cotonu on the issue at the moment.
“Communication with him is indirect. We don’t want to create a situation where we now go to Cotonou and I will be embarrassed for many other things.
“We know who is heading the police, who is the High Commissioner in Cotonou. I can’t go to that area now, but I speak with him indirectly anytime I want to speak with him. I have been speaking with him through somebody that should know.”
