Iheanacho nominated for Premier League Player, Goal of the Month Awards
Super Eagles and Leicester City’s striker, Kelechi Iheanacho, has bagged a double nomination for the ‘Premier League Player’ and ‘Goal of the Month’ Awards for April.
The player became the fourth Nigerian to win the monthly award after Jay-Jay Okocha, Peter Odemwingie and Odion Ighalo when he scooped the March edition of the award after scoring five goals in three matches in the month under review.
With four goals and two assists last month, Iheanacho could, however, become the first Nigerian to win the monthly award back to back if he wins the April edition but he needs to beat seven other nominees, including Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood and West Ham’s Jesse Lingard.
Others vying for the Player of the Month Award include Leeds United’s Dallas, West Brom’s Matheus Pereira, Newcastle’s Allan Saint-Maximin, and Burnley’s Chris Wood.
Meanwhile, the 24-year-old could also bag a double award for the month of April following another nomination in the goal of the month category.
Iheanacho assisted the Foxes’ equaliser against Crystal Palace on April 26 before completing the comeback with a screamer in the 80th minute to give Leicester a 2-1 win.
Other nominees include West Ham’s Lingard and Pablo Fornals, Liverpool’s Alexander-Arnold, Newcastle’s Saint-Maximin, West Brom’s Callum Robinson and Wolves’ Leander Dendoncker.
