Stay in your houses if not on official duties, FCT warns soldiers, security men
The Federal Capital Territory [FCT] has warned security men against flouting the restriction order.
The FCT Administration said only those on official duties are allowed movement in the territory during the 14-day curfew imposed by the president, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.)
The Chairman of the FCT Ministerial Task team on Traffic, Ikharo Attah, handed down the warning on Tuesday after monitoring the compliance level in the nation’s capital.
Attah put the compliance level at 85 per cent but noted that many security operatives not on duty, including the military and police, abused their privileges.
He said henceforth, any security operatives caught violating the curfew would be arrested and prosecuted by the appropriate authority.
Attah said,
“The virus wants to live on the body, when nobody picks it up, it dies. All security men should stay in their houses except those on official duties.
“If we are to allow all uniformed men to roam the streets, the restriction will have no impact. We want to quickly end this coronavirus pandemic so that we can return to normal lives.”
Attah urged residents to cooperate with the government by complying with the no-movement order and observe all precautionary measures rolled out by the government.
Meanwhile, an indigenous company, Faxx Stores and Trading Nigeria Limited, has donated assorted personal protective equipment to health workers in the FCT to aid them in the fight against the spread of the coronavirus.
The items are 52 units full personal protective suits, 200 (400 units) face masks and 150 hand sanitizers.
Delivering the items to the administration, the Chief Executive Officer, Francis Abu, said the donation was in appreciation of the FCT Administration and Federal Government’s prompt response to curtail the spread of the coronavirus since its outbreak in Nigeria.
Abu said,
“In times of unforeseen and unexpected crisis of this nature and magnitude, it is imperative that we come together as a community to assist government and together, we can play an important role in addressing this emergency and helping those affected by it.”
Receiving the items, the FCT Minister of State, Dr Ramatu Aliyu, while thanking the organisation, called on other corporate bodies to support the government in the fight against the pandemic.
