UCL: Dortmund beat Newcastle 2-0 to top Group F
Borussia Dortmund beat Newcastle United 2-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night to take top spot in Group F.
Niclas Fullkrug and Julian Brandt scored the goals for Dortmund, who were deserved winners.
Newcastle started the game well but failed to create any clear chances. Dortmund took the lead in the 26th minute through Fullkrug, who finished off a good move.
Eddie Howe made a double substitution at half-time, bringing on Miguel Almiron and Anthony Gordon, but Newcastle failed to improve.
Joelinton missed a header from close range in the 56th minute, and Newcastle struggled to create other clear chances.
Dortmund doubled their lead in the 79th minute through Brandt, who finished off a superb counter-attack.
Newcastle struggled in the remaining minutes, but they could not find a way back into the game.
The result leaves Dortmund top of Group F with one point more than Paris Saint-Germain, who play later tonight. Dortmund can qualify for the knockout stages with one win from their final two games.
Newcastle are in third place in the group, two points behind Paris Saint-Germain.
