A woman was rescued by emergency responders and flown to hospital after falling from a cliff into a creek in California’s Wine Country on Saturday, according to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.
The incident came to light after the woman reportedly sent a text message to a friend at around 3:30 a.m., saying she was stranded on a cliff near Porter Creek Road and needed assistance. However, the friend did not read the message until later in the morning, prompting a missing-person report to authorities.
Following the report, the sheriff’s office launched a search operation at approximately 10:30 a.m., deploying a helicopter to the 4400 block of Porter Creek Road, close to the Petrified Forest in Calistoga. During the search, deputies discovered that the woman appeared to have fallen from the cliff into a creek below.
Emergency personnel subsequently carried out an aerial rescue, lifting the woman from the creek before transporting her to a hospital for treatment. The sheriff’s office confirmed that she sustained injuries in the incident.
Authorities have yet to disclose the severity of the woman’s injuries or explain the circumstances that led to her becoming stranded on the cliff in the early hours of Saturday.
