Some secondary school pupils in Taraba State wrote their West African Examination Council exam late at night instead of the usual morning time, causing confusion and anger among parents.

The English Language paper, which was scheduled for 8 a.m., was delayed for hours with no official reason given by WAEC at the time of filing this report.

A video making the rounds on social media showed the students sitting in a poorly lit hall at night, still writing their exam.

Many parents who went to check on their children were shocked to find out they were still in the exam hall. They described the situation as unfair and stressful for the children.

“This has never happened before,” one parent said. “If WAEC knew the exam could not start in the morning, they should have postponed it to another day. Making our children write exams at night is not right.”

Another concerned parent said, “These students are writing another paper tomorrow. How do you expect them to perform well after such stress? WAEC owes us an explanation and must apologise.”

Some parents called on the Federal Government to step in and investigate what caused the delay and to punish those responsible.

“It’s not enough to keep quiet. This must not happen again. Students deserve better treatment,” a parent added.

As of the time of this report, WAEC had not issued any statement to explain the reason behind the unusual delay.
